A lot of money for 20 minutes pool time

IN the current war against obesity, can anyone explain the logic in charging 50p for a one-year-old baby to swim in Trafford, especially when accompanied by my eight-year-old, paying £1.40 and myself at £2.80.

I was advised by the lifeguard that as I had been in the heated baby pool for 20 minutes I was putting my baby at risk of hyperthermia.

Obviously I consider myself a responsible parent and on his suggestion we left the pool.

Moral of the story, during the summer holidays £4.70 for a twenty minute family activity is beyond our budget. Incidentally, both my sons were having a lovely time all be it for twenty minutes. We spent longer in the changing rooms!

Surely the council/sports centre should not charge parents who are only going to be in the swimming pool for 20 minutes as they are taking a baby in with them. This is clearly not fair to charge 50p for the baby then £2.80 for an adult who does not do any swimming. The swimming pool at Stretford Sports Centre seems to be a lot colder than it used to be as well and in the first few visits I was advised to only stay in for around 5 minutes!

The sports centres in Trafford should definitely not be charging under 5's for swimming especially as the parent taking the child has to pay £2.80. To make matters worse I went to one of the 'free child' swimming sessions at Stretford sports centre and was told that I still had to pay 50p for my 8 month old son because only school age children get in free. So it's free for a 15 year old but you have to pay for a baby!
