A brave new world surrounded by stinking rubbish

IT was a little concerning to read your recent article on Trafford's plan to increase recycling as it seems that we are to have a plethora of wheelie bins.

Where are we going to keep them? Most residents do not live in houses with large front gardens where bins can be hidden away.

Most of us are unable or unwilling to drag these dirty and smelly bins through the house on collection day so they are going to be stored at the front of most houses, turning the whole borough into a mini council tip. Not a nice prospect for residents and visitors alike.

It is bad enough already when, after collection, the bins are scattered all over the pavements. What is it going to be like with all these extra bins? The Fire Service tell us that wheelie bins are a magnet for arson attacks so that's great isn't it?

So the glass and cans are going to be collected monthly. That means in order to stop attracting flies and vermin, the glass and cans will have to be washed in hot soapy water before putting them into the bin. How environmentally sound is that?

This is our brave new world; living surrounded by our own stinking rubbish. There has got to be a better way.
