Armed robbery at Timperley bookmaker

9:46am Friday 21st November 2008

ARMED men escaped with cash after a robbery at a bookmakers in Timperley.

Three men, one carrying a large brick and one armed with a crow bar, forced their way into Betfred on Stockport Road, at around 6pm on Wednesday (November 19).

They threatened staff and stole cash before running out of the store and driving off in a car, which they had parked in the Timperley Methodist Church car park nearby.

No one was hurt during the incident but staff and two customers were left extremely shaken.

The three male offenders were all wearing dark clothing with their faces covered with balaclavas.

Detective Constable Stuart Brierley from Trafford CID said: “This robbery happened in a very busy bookmakers and there was also an event going on at the church where the car used by the offenders was parked.

“There would have been many people coming and going at the time of this incident and I would appeal to anyone that may have seen a suspicious car in the area to call police so we can find the men responsible for this attack.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Trafford CID on 0161 856 7691 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
