AS the National Year of Reading draws to a close the council is on the look out for a reading hero.

Organisers of the event want to find 25 heroes from around the country and acknowledge their efforts in encouraging people to read.

Trafford Council has asked residents to nominate individuals whose personal effort to support reading has made a real difference to others.

Reading heroes could be dynamic librarians or teachers who have delivered innovative reading projects.

They could be an adult learner who has turned their life around since developing their reading skills or a reading volunteer whose passion has had a lasting impact on the lives of others.

Heroes can come from all walks of life, from writers, children, students, health professionals, social workers, volunteers, mentors, teachers and librarians.

The selected reading heroes will be acknowledged and received as guests of honour at a private reception with the Prime Minister’s wife, Sarah Brown, at 10 Downing Street in early 2009.

Winners will also be featured in a national newspaper supplement in December and on the National Year of Reading website.

To nominate a hero, complete the online form at www.yearofreading.org.uk/readingheroes.

All nominations must be received by Friday, November 28 by 12.00pm - so hurry to get your nominations in.
