A SALE and Altrincham Euro-MP has called on supermarkets to slash unnecessary packaging in a bid to reduce Britain’s huge waste mountain.
Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies launched his own ‘scrap the wrap’ campaign against plastic wrapping for fruit and vegetables three years ago.
A new Local Government Association report revealed that up to 38 percent of packaging in a regular household shopping basket is unrecyclable, and 4.6 million tons of packaging waste is filling landfill sites and increasing grocery bills.
