A SPECIALIST lingerie shop in Altrincham has been nominated for a prestigious national award.

Betty & Belle, a boutique that specialises in post-surgery underwear for women with breast cancer, has been put forward as one of the Best Shops in the UK and Ireland, a lingerie industry magazine award chosen by a panel of 21 lingerie brands.

The shop, which opened on Oxford Road in July 2007, specialises in post surgery, large and small size cup lingerie and swimwear and owners Geraldine Macaulay-Fraser and Kate Hamilton explained how since then the business has gone from strength to strength.

They said: "It's fantastic to have been recognised by people in the industry in our first year. Since opening, we have achieved our goal not only to offer gorgeous lingerie but to excel in fitting and unbeatable aftercare service.

"It can sometimes take an hour or two to fit a bra properly. The most important aspect is to make our customers feel perfectly comfortable and confident. We discuss our customers' needs, often sitting down with a cup of tea and chatting about how they want their lingerie to fit and the problems they may be having.

"We have also held, and have a full programme of events scheduled for the year, special evenings for our customers, with talks from breast care nurses, local fashion and lifestyle advisors and Breast Cancer Care UK."

The awards will be decided on July 27 and the ambitious business partners are keeping their fingers crossed. Geraldine added: "We'd just like to say a massive thank you for all our support so far from our lovely customers, the great breast care specialists and the local community."
