One way system in Urmston for eight weeks

12:00pm Friday 16th May 2008

CROFTS Bank Road, Urmston, will temporarily operate a one-way system for necessary utility and diversion works by BT, National Grid and United Utilities.

The work will begin on May 27, for a period of at least eight weeks, from the junction at Moorside Road to the junction at Flixton Road heading in a southerly direction .

The one-way order will be removed as quickly as possible and the remainder of the works carried out using two way traffic signals. Construction work will then begin on a new traffic signal junction at Sumner Way.

While the exact construction method has still to be agreed with the contractor, it is likely temporary traffic signals will be needed at times during these works, remaining until Christmas.

Exemptions will apply to emergency vehicles.

Drivers are advised to take the alternative route via Flixton Road, Bowfell Road and Moorside Road or Higher Road, Moss vale Road, Winchester Road from the Station Road/Higher Road traffic signals.

Access to Crofts Bank Road will only be available from the Moorside Road/Winchester Road junction.

Access to the market will be maintained from Railway Road.

Derby Road will be the subject of a Prohibition of Driving Order on the Crofts Bank Road junction, in order to facilitate utilities and prevent rat running, access to the immediate area will be via Westbourne Road from Winchester Road.

A no entry except for access will be introduced on Roseneath Road to prevent the road being used as an alternative route for drivers avoiding the one-way order.

Traffic conditions will be carefully monitored during the works. It will be necessary to divert buses whilst the one-way order is in place. The Council and GMPTE will be working closely with the bus operators to minimise any disruption to usual services.

The early completion of these works ahead of the opening of the development will enable this length of Crofts Bank Road to be improved and a consultation on these proposals will commence shortly.
