IT'S been over four years since the release of Freeland: Now and Them, Adam Freeland's only produced album to date, and though there have been some acclaimed mixes and remixes in that time, this EP has been long overdue.
The Brighton-based DJ's notoriety has increased considerably since his reworking of Sarah Vaughan's Fever', which was nominated for a Grammy, the revamp of The Who's Baba O'Riley' (the theme tune to CSI: New York) as well as creating the soundtrack to Playstation game Juiced 2.
The title and opening track Hate' provides a daring, deep bassline, digitally staggered and with a minimalist feel. It marks a move away from the commercial rejiggles fans have become accustomed to, ploughing into a new and abstract territory.
Where's your God now" is a trademark breakbeat number, with strong swirly synths, cut-up to a medium tempo. The final track Glowsticks' brings back the classic dancefloor breaks routine, Freeland utilising his experience in bashing out dirty, electronic funk.
Marine Parade listeners will neither be shocked nor disappointed.
