AN indie band with plenty of Trafford connections is preparing to rock the Lowry to help disadvantaged and disabled youngsters.

Juno Ashes, featuring Adam Masters from Altrincham and Flixton’s Paul will join forces with two other acts to raise cash for the charity Caudwell’s Children next week.

Adam, tne group’s bassist, says the offer to perform came completely out of the blue from the front man of Oldham outfit The Tides, one of the acts they’ll be sharing the bill with.

He adds that they didn’t have to think twice about accepting the invitation and believes gigs like this can only help in shattering the misconception that many musicians care only about furthering their own careers.

Juno Ashes are also wildly excited about playing at a venue that has played host to international stars, including a man who I guess you could call Trafford’s most famous musical son - one Steven Patrick Morrissey.

If you go down to the Lowry next week you’ll also get the chance to bid for a guitar signed by the likes of The Stone Roses and Paul Heaton and Adam hopes they’ll be able to secure the services of another Manchester based music legend to oversee the auction for what promises to be a highly covetted instrument.

Caudwell’s Children is a national charity whose work includes supplying wheelchairs to youngsters with disabilities and Adam hopes the concert will raise £3,000 for the organisation. They need to raise £1,000 to simply cover the cost of hiring of the venue.

Juno Ashes’ own career shows no signs of fizzling out and one of the recent highlights for Adam was when the band supported one of his idols, former Beautiful South lead singer Paul Heaton at his gig in Newcastle. Heaton is famous for his witty and incisive lyrics but what’s he like in real life?

“He’s a lovely guy - he’s aware of our stuff, likes it and his guitarist is a good mate of mine,” he says.
